Temple Bnai Israel is committed to Jewish action for a just world through the pursuit of tzedakah (charitable giving), tzedeck, (justice) and gemilut hasadim (acts of kindness).  We work for our local community and the world at large.

We are a participating congregation of WAIM, the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry
and Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. We also work to support the Covenant Soup Kitchen.

The Greening Committee serves the Temple's community by suggesting ways in which our building, our activities, and our lives can be "greener," in particular in light of the concept of Tikkun Olam. We organize activities and provide information centered around the meeting between Judaism and environmentalism.

"A theology which is not a plan of social action is merely a way of preaching and praying. It is a menu without the dinner." (Mordecai Kaplan, Not So Random Thoughts)
